Staying in Front of the Increasing Cyber Risk Landscape
A MN HIMSS Webinar
On May 27th, Jessica Albrecht and Dave Jensen attended the MN HIMSS “Staying in Front of the Increasing Cyber Risk Landscape” webinar. General topics included current events impacting heightened security awareness, product and vendor analysis, staffing (competitive market), ransomware readiness and assessment, and creating a security culture and controls. The panel included the following from M Fairview Health Services:
- Jim Brady – Vice President, Chief Information Security Officer
- Ashok Kallam – Director of Cybersecurity
- Dave Harvey – Director of IT Risk Management & Compliance
Cybersecurity within healthcare is paramount based on patient safety, reputation, and revenue implications (potential for cancelled surgeries). Readiness and preparations are key to successful security remediation. There are many areas that are impacted to maintain a positive cybersecurity environment. This ranges from collaboration of IT with legal, compliance, and privacy partners to the vendor management office and vendor analysis to tracking phishing attacks and creating a culture of security within clinic, hospital, pharmacy, and remote employees. Positive outcomes in the cybersecurity landscape takes specialized staff along with an awareness from employees to thwart attacks and avoid risky IT options.
