2019 BCBS Information Management Symposium

The 2019 Blue Cross Blue Shield Information Management Symposium was held in Boise, Idaho on September 15-18 and hosted by Blue Cross of Idaho. The purpose of the conference is to provide a platform for data analytics and information technology representatives across all 36 Blues to exchange best practices and innovation experienced at their respective states. There were attendees from many different departments including data warehousing, business intelligence, information management, and architecture. The Symposium was held in the beautiful Boise Centre right in the heart of downtown Boise.

The days were broken out into a large group keynote speech followed by a variety of breakout sessions. These breakout sessions covered many different topics including learning how to accurately predict individual member future total cost using machine learning and business development; using admits, discharges, and transfers (ADT) to transform clinical engagement; and how data is driving the change in the healthcare industry to move towards value-based care. A popular topic that was discussed was fast healthcare interoperability resources (FHIR) and how we have the power to tamper data for better health, safer hospitals, and how business leaders and clinicals can work together to create a healthier world.

Trexin was a Silver Sponsor this year! Each attendee received a Trexin notebook and pen to carry with them throughout the Symposium. Around breakfast and lunch time, attendees would stroll around the Grand Ballroom to all of the various booths. Trexin introduced themselves to almost 300 attendees and explained our Strategy, Assessment, and Roadmap (STAR); Cost of Care strategy; and the variety of experiences we have had working with Clients – just like themselves – bringing value, strategy, and execution. Attendees could also enter to win an Apple Watch Series 4 (congratulations to Mark Borkowski from Blue Cross of Idaho)!
