Moving Towards Health Equity

As The Joint Commission rolls out its new mandates, Trexin is well-equipped to help you make the transition.

Following the healthcare industry’s emphasis on Health Equity, The Joint Commission is seeking to employ new standards of care and mandates for accredited institutions. On July 1st of this year The Joint Commission, an Illinois-based nonprofit that accredits healthcare organizations and programs, began instituting new mandates to bolster Health Equity throughout the field. This development comes on the heels of mandates first instituted at the beginning of the year which sought to improve the quality of care among industry leaders. Now, The Joint Commission is moving to apply these mandates as national patient safety goals. The overall goal of this initiative is to simultaneously put greater emphasis on care quality and hospital safety, while eliminating unnecessary administrative costs.

The Joint Commission is additionally offering a certification program for hospitals and other care centers that comply with standards set by The Joint Commission such as data collection, patient care, and community collaboration. In a statement Dr. Jonathan Perlin, the CEO of The Joint Commission, was quoted as saying, “The certification program will distinguish those organizations making health care equity a strategic priority by collaborating with patients, families and caregivers and with external organizations to identify community-level needs to support achieving equitable health outcomes.” Perlin’s comments, alongside the actions taken by The Joint Commission exemplify the emerging seriousness and commitment to Health Equity on display throughout the healthcare industry.

While these new mandates will undoubtedly benefit hospitals and the communities they serve, it can be daunting to realize and implement the improvements necessary to meet such requirements. Trexin is equipped with the knowledge and experience to make the transition to these new mandates as smooth as possible while maintaining- if not improving- profit margins. Our experts have the compassion and know-how to help bring organizations to achieve their most equitable patient care to date without sacrificing profit in the process.
